Sandvik stainless steel developed for Opinel is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. Stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40%, which allows for a very satisfactory edge without being susceptible to corrosion.
Hornbeam handle, color-stained
Origin: France. Medium-sized tree with dense foliage (toothed leaves) and a fluted trunk with thin, smooth, grayish bark. Very hard and resistant wood, light gray in color. Used for making tools, billiard cues, and formerly butcher's stalls and yokes.
7 cm Yatagan blade
The name Yatagan originally referred to a saber used in Turkey. When creating his folding knife, Joseph Opinel designed a blade with a Yatagan shape (curved at the tip) and a convex profile, which guarantee incomparable cutting quality.
