The Sandvik stainless steel developed for Opinel is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. Stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40%, which allows for a very satisfactory sharpness without being sensitive to corrosion.
Handle in colored glazed hornbeam
Sourcing: France. Medium-sized tree, with dense foliage (toothed leaves) with a fluted trunk with thin, smooth gray bark. Very hard and very resistant wood, light gray. Used for the manufacture of tools, billiard cues, and formerly butchers' stalls and yokes.

The name Yatagan originally refers to a sabre used in Turkey. When creating his folding knife, Joseph Opinel designed a blade with a so-called Yatagan shape (curved at the tip) and a rounded profile which guarantees an incomparable cutting quality.
