8 cm stainless steel blade

Sandvik stainless steel, developed for Opinel, is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. Stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40%, which allows for a very satisfactory edge without being susceptible to corrosion.

Hornbeam handle with colored stain

Sourced from: France. A medium-sized tree with dense foliage (serrated leaves) and a fluted trunk with thin, smooth, greyish bark. Very hard and very resistant wood, light greyish. Used for making tools, billiard cues, and formerly butcher's stalls and yokes.

The name Yatagan originally referred to a saber used in Turkey. When creating his folding knife, Joseph Opinel designed a blade with a so-called Yatagan shape (curved at the tip) and a domed profile that guarantee incomparable cutting quality.
