The Sandvik stainless steel developed for Opinel is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. Stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40%, which provides a very satisfactory edge without being susceptible to corrosion.
Natural varnished beech handle

Virobloc double safety system
All Opinel folding knives are equipped with the patented Virobloc system, with the exception of the small Tradition models. Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, this stainless steel safety ring allows the blade to be locked in the open position (for safe use). Today, the Virobloc also allows the blade to be locked in the closed position (for safe transport).
