Sandvik Stainless Steel The Sandvik stainless steel developed for Opinel is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. Stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40%, which allows for a very satisfactory cutting edge without being susceptible to corrosion.
Natural varnished beech handle
Source: France. A tree found on all three continents of the northern hemisphere. One of the most elegant large trees, with a smooth trunk and dense foliage, the beech is very easy to prune. White or very pale brown in color, it has a fine grain, a uniform structure, and a straight grain. Widely used in furniture, brushes, toys, and parquet flooring.
Virobloc double security system
All Opinel folding knives are equipped with the patented Virobloc system, with the exception of the small Tradition knives. Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, this stainless steel safety ring locks the blade in the open position (safety of use). Today, the Virobloc also locks the blade in the closed position (safety of transport).
